More arrests in Turkish match-fixing probe

A Turkish match-fixing investigation saw seven people jailed on Wednesday pending trial, with Fenerbache among the implicated clubs.

Police have detained 61 people since Sunday, with 25 being brought to court for questioning by prosecutors.
The authorities launched raids in 15 provinces across Turkey last weekend, searching club premises and detaining players and administrators.

The most high-profile figure embroiled in the allegations is Fenerbache chairman Aziz Yildirim, whose side won a record 18th league title last season.

Other suspects include Fenerbache players and directors and the chairmen of Sivasspor, Diyarbakirspor and Giresunspor.
Prosecutors had asked the court to remand 19 people in custody.

They have since released 15, including Turkey international striker Mehmet Yildiz.
The scandal has affected share prices of clubs in the Turkish league.

Fenerbache and last season's runners-up Trabzonspor have qualified for the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League.
However, if clubs are found guilty of wrongdoing they face exclusion from competitions, and could be relegated to a lower division.

The Turkish League is set to start on August 7 with UEFA requesting confirmation of the Turkish side taking part in the third Champions League qualifying round by July 15.
