New signing David Vaughan believes the Black Cats, after bringing in a host of new players including Wes Brown and John O'Shea, should be aiming for European football next season
The former Blackpool midfielder completed his move to the Stadium of Light just one day after Manchester United pair John O'shea and Wes Brown signed.
Vaughan penned a three-year deal with the North East side and feels his personal ambitions are shared with Steve Bruce's team.
When asked about next season, he told SAFC TV: "Hopefully, they can move on and build on what they have done in the last few years.
"The signings that we have made over the last few weeks have been impressive, so hopefully we can kick on and at least be in the top 10, if not the top six, teams in the country."
Vaughan was a much sought-after player following Blackpool's relegation from the Premier League, but West Brom reportedly pulled out at the last minute, allowing Sunderland to pounce. However with tough existing competition from the League Champion Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea as well as the emerging giants, Man City and Spurs. The Black Cat should be happy to be in the league the following season instead
