Arsenal eyeing Marseille's Mathieu Valbuena if Samir Nasri leaves

A £12.7m move for the 26-year-old will be considered by the Gunners if they lose their diminutive midfielder this summer, but Didier Deschamps is likely to be reluctant to sell

Arsenal are looking at Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena if Samir Nasri leaves, according to reports in France.

Nasri, 24, has already admitted he has become fed up of finishing campaigns without trophies and has been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City in recent weeks.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said he would try to keep the Frenchman at the Emirates for next season but Nasri responded by saying that his priority "is to make a big career and to win titles."

And with suggestions of a summer departure growing louder, L'Equipe reports that the north Londoners are looking at Valbuena as a replacement.

The Marseille midfielder is tied to the Stade Velodrome until 2014, but a Nasri exit from Arsenal could push Wenger into considering a €14 million (£12.7m) bid.

However, convincing Marseille coach Didier Deschamps to release his star player may prove tough as he looks to bring the Ligue 1 title back to the Stade Velodrome next term.

The 26-year-old playmaker is also keen on fighting for a place in France's Euro 2012 squad which could be difficult if he steps into unknown territory in the Premier League.
