Aston Villa reject £15m Liverpool bid for Stewart Downing

The Reds have reportedly had a bid turned down for the England winger with boss Alex McLeish seemingly looking to hold out for a figure around the £20 million mark

Aston Villa have rejected a £15 million offer from Liverpool for Stewart Downing, according to reports.

The Guardian reports that the winger is high on Kenny Dalglish's wish list and that the Anfield club have been shunned in their attempt to lure the England man away from Villa Park.

Following the sale of Ashley Young to Manchester United, Villa will reportedly only listen to offers around the £20m mark but are keen to keep hold of the former Middlesbrough star.

Downing's reluctance to agree a new deal with the Villans suggests that he is ready to leave the club although he had previously suggested that he wanted to be playing Champions League football.

The Guardian suggests that David Ngog could also be included as a makeweight to tempt the Midlands club to part with one of their key players.

The Reds are seemingly looking to tie up a deal for the 26-year-old as they attempt to sign a second player following the arrival of Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.
