Sunderland have confirmed the signing of defender Wes Brown from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee. The player has agreed a four-year contract.
Brown, 31, is a former England international and has joined the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee, understood to be in the region of £1 million.
Manchester United defender John O'Shea is due at Sunderland on Thursday for a medical as Black Cats manager Steve Bruce closes in on yet another summer signing.
Having sealed a deal for Wes Brown, United's Darron Gibson is also still on the radar and Sunderland have high hopes of completing a triple swoop on Old Trafford. Bruce targeted the trio several weeks ago and had a joint bid of more than £12 million accepted.
Gibson was quick to indicate his willingness to consider a move to the Stadium of Light, but that deal has proved to be the most problematic. However now O'Shea, 30, has edged ever closer to accepting Sunderland's offer to add experience and know-how to a defence which was badly affected by injuries last season.
